Welcome to the new SGW Dressage blog!

Welcome to the new SGW Dressage blog!  While we haven’t posted much in the past, we’re committed to sharing the 2017 journey with everyone via this blog. To start, we want to recap 2016 as there is a lot to celebrate!

Sally Buchheister & Whisper
To start off, here are some highlights from our students’ 2016 season:
Sally Buchheister & Whisper: Sally and her former event horse continued their success in the dressage world in 2016, including earning the 4th Level High Score award at the CDCTA Recognized Show.

Cherie Chauvin: Cherie and her two OTTBs Dusty Dazing and Katchi Kapshi brought home consistent results all year to help Cherie earn her USDF Bronze Medal.

Katie Domino & Rush W: Katie and her event horse Rush W made the move up to Intermediate this year with some great results, including a 3rd place at the Seneca Valley Pony Club Horse Trials.
Nan Schumaker & Kozi

Nan Schumaker & La Cosa Nostra: Nan and her longtime partner “Kozi” had a pretty spectacular year including WINNING the Waredaca Classic Training Three-Day Event and picking up the Reserve Champion ribbon at the American Eventing Championships in the Master Amateur Training Rider division. They were also named the USEA Training Master and Master Amateur Rider of the Year. And Kozi was named Reserve Champion USEA Training Horse of the Year.

Emily Scott & Roxanne: Emily and Roxanne (owned by Deborah Jiggitts) had a great time at the PVDA Ride for Life show WINNING both the First-level 3 class with a 69.265% and the Second-level 1 class with a 65%.

Katie Domino & Rush
As for Susan, while she had to take the year off from riding due to an injury, she stayed quite busy teaching and judging around the country. She traveled from coast to coast, with big stops in Michigan for the Richland Park CCI, California for the Woodside International CIC, and New York for the NEDA Dressage Championships.

Diamond Quinn
While Susan wasn’t able to show herself, her horses stayed busy thanks to longtime student Katie Domino taking on Huey, and the Hilltop Farm crew assisting with Quincy. Susan is very much looking forward to returning to the saddle in 2017 and getting back in the show ring, but here are the highlights for Quincy and Huey.

Diamond Quinn (“Quincy”): Owner in partnership with Deborah Bly, Quincy had an impressive year at the breed shows. His highlights include being named Champion Yearling at the American Hannoverian Society Futurity at Hilltop Farm, as well as being named the Top Yearling in the country by the AHS. He also went to Dressage at Devon where he once again was named Champion Yearling and also won the Born in America Award.

Diamond Quinn
Revelle (“Huey”) and Katie Domino: Longtime student Katie took over the ride on Huey after Susan was injured this spring. What started out as her just helping keep him in work quickly progressed into her having too much fun and taking him to a few shows. Their 3rd Level scores were quite impressive with a 70.0% on 3rd Level Test 3 at PVDA Fall Recognized Show, which earned them the High Point Award for 3rd Level. Next thing you know, Huey helped Katie earn her USDF Bronze Medal!

Currently Susan is in Florida teaching and judging, so stay tuned in to this page for our March update, which will include highlights from the Florida season!
